Short Summary[]

Detailed Summary[]

The date is July 29, 3200. It is currently night-time and the crew is attending popular musician Nika Starlight’s last concert on Strophios. A bounty hunter named Constantine Fang had just escaped the crew’s clutches, but not before Prosper Trudeau was able to injure both Fang as well as Laura McCrary, a lord whom they are protecting. At the moment, the concert is still going on, only people in the immediate vicinity of the VIP lounge are aware of the fighting that had just taken place.

The End of the Concert[]

At the entrance to the arena there is a large bottleneck of people both trying to exit and enter the concert. This gives Fang an opportunity to get away from Prosper and Mr. Sicarian unnoticed. Due to the chaos of the crowd, Prosper and Mr. Sicarian get separated, and while Prosper is wading through the sea of people, he inevitably feels the end of a barrel being pushed into his back. When Prosper turns around, Fang is there holding the pistol that he had used to disintegrate one of the local security guards with back at the VIP lounge. With quick thinking, Prosper goes to put his hands above his head and secretly flips on comms to the Swan Song while saying, “Alright Missieur Fang, you have got me.” Fang tells Prosper to walk ahead and that they are leaving. Wilbur Higgins III who had been staying back at the Swan Song up to this point, hears this dialogue and goes and to get himself dressed.

An automated voice comes over the intercom of the lounge telling everyone to please leave and that the concert is over. While Piani Pic, Connor Wu, and Laura McCrary go to find the head of security, they stumble upon Nika Starlight and someone who looks to be her manager talking with a security officer. The manager is telling Nika that they need to leave but Nika is reluctant to go as she doesn’t want to disappoint her fans. Seeing Nika up this close causes Wu to tightly grab-hold of Piani’s arm while making some squeeky noises and shaking a little. Piani goes up to Nika and tells her that two of her fans (Laura and Wu) desperately want to see her. Content with being around a couple of her fans, Nika and everybody else temporarily head off to her tour bus. Piani, Laura, and Wu briefly chat with Nika and her manager but pretty quickly the three disband from the bus and head back to the Swan Song, but not before Wu receives a hug and a kiss on the cheek from Nika Starlight.

Prosper and Constantine Fang finally arrive at a location devoid of prying eyes. Fang asks Prosper why him and his crew are there and Prosper responds by saying that they are there for the same reason, they are there for the bounty of Lucas McCrary. Fang asks Prosper why he shouldn’t just kill him on the spot and Prosper tells Fang that one of his crew members, Mr. Sicarian, will probably be looking for him. Hearing this name, Fang puts his gun away and tells Prosper that him and his crew needs to have a chat and that compared to Mr. Sicarian, Laura McCrary is small potatoes. Fang then allows Prosper to leave and he and Mr. Sicarian end up reuniting at the docking bay.

The Fallibility of the Crew[]

In drunk stupor, Higgins puts on his pants, adorns his pistol, and walks out of the Swan Song right into a group of cops. Confused, Higgins asks what is going on and one of the cops asks Higgins if he was the one who phoned in about an assassin. Higgins tells the cop yes, but that they are at his ship and not at the ship of the assassin’s. After being pointed in the right direction, the cops walk over to Fang’s ship and knock on its entrance. Accompanied by the silence of the situation and following the turning of the ship’s entrance handle, Higgins hears a deep boom, and at the entrance to Fang’s ship is smoke and streaks of red with no cops in sight.

There are officers standing in front of a large crowd who are all waiting to get into the docking bay and among the crowd is the party. A nearby officer is shouting into a loud-speaker saying that the docking bay is temporarily off-limits due to a recent accident involving a couple of officers. While Higgins looks down onto the scene below, he sees Fang emerge from the crowd of people. When stopped by a security guard, Fang pulls out a sheet of paper which allows him to pass the guard unrestricted. Immediately upon seeing this, Higgins jumps into weapons control for the ship’s sand-thrower but Pi tells Higgins that they think that shooting Fang is a bad idea and de-powers the weapons systems. Higgins then quickly contacts Piani and tells her that Pi had turned off the sand-thrower and to re-enable it. Piani then tells Pi that it is okay to turn back on the guns and Pi does so. Higgins says, “Hey, if I kill a couple of cops, don’t hate me” and then shoots the sand-thrower in Fang’s direction.

The sharp silicon produced by the sand-thrower spits out of the Swan Song and hurls towards Fang. There are half a dozen cops who get caught in the cross-fire and instantly turn into mist. When the sand finally reaches Fang, his blue shield activates and he gets thrown a couple of feet across the ground. Immediately following the release of sand, the weapons on Fang’s ship center directly onto the Swan Song. Appalled at Higgins’ actions, Mr. Sicarian connects to Fang’s comms. Fang asks him if it was his ship that shot the sand at him and Mr. Sicarian says that it was his drunk captain and that he would like to ask for forgiveness just this one time because he knows that Fang’s ship is capable of annihilating theirs in just a single moment. After a brief pause, Fang tells Mr. Sicarian that he will not blow up their ship for the moment and that they are all going to leave the station and then reunite at a later time to have a conversation regarding their situation. After Fang gets back onto his ship, Higgins receives a forward of a bounty on Mr. Sicarian worth 1 million credits with the subject of the message reading, ‘We should talk.’

Talking With the Policemen First[]

The docking bay was once again made available to the public as the cops are busy dealing with their recently deceased comrades. The crew gathers onto the Swan Song and Pi tells Prosper that he and his crew are so fallible and that in many situations, they may know more than the crew. Higgins separately talks with Mr. Sicarian informing him about the million dollar bounty on his head. He then suggests to fake Mr. Sicarian’s death.

Sicarians space walk

Mr. Sicarian says to Piani that while they were fighting with Fang, he was able to partially control black energy that came from inside of him and went into Fang, temporarily disabling him. He tells her that ever since he had been out in space when they were on Harridan's Heart, he has been in quite a bit of pain and has had massive headaches but that when he released the black energy, all of that pain went away. He asks Piani if she has any insight as to what the black energy is and if it has any connections with MES and Piani tells him that he could go to a nearby facility that tests people for MES.

Higgins puts on his tuxedo t-shirt and before he walks out of the Swan Song to meet up with the cops he says to Piani, “A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do Piani, and I’ve got to tell these cops why I shot them with sand.” The police apprehend Higgins and while he is in the police car being taken away, Higgins asks the police driver to get him in contact with Mustafa Lee because he wishes to talk with him.

Dome Security Prisoner[]

The next scene is on the following day and it begins with the camera looking at the back of Higgins while he is talking into a jail phone. He has is hands manacled together and on the back of his orange jumpsuit are the words, “Dome Security Prisoner.” Mustafa Lee says over the phone that he is “useful despite his constant lack of judgment” and that he could get Higgins out of jail but that he would be owing Mustafa big time. Higgins then hangs up the phone and gets escorted to a detention cell.

Rajani Van Dorne calls Prosper and says that Higgins is a liability and that it would be easier for the Madari Syndicate as well as the ship’s crew if they were to simply leave Higgins behind. Prosper then asks Pi what they think and Pi responds by saying that they think the whole crew is a liability and that the only good thing that they have done so far is unbrake them. Pi then says that Higgins shouldn’t necessarily be condemned for his mistake as the crew has made far worse mistakes in the past. Prosper then calls the crew to the Seventh Annual Swan Song Meeting and it is determined that the crew will ask this favor of Mustafa Lee to get Higgins out of jail knowing that it will put them in a large debt to the Madari Syndicate. Prosper then makes the call.

One Last Test[]

Mr. Sicarian walks into an MES testing facility. It is a very calm place with ferns and water fountains and parents playing with their children. Mr. Sicarian’s name gets called under the alias, ‘Mr. Cook’ and he gets taken to an examination room. He gets asked many weird questions while odd equipment evaluates various conditions of his body. After some time, a doctor comes into the room and tells Mr. Sicarian that he does not seem to show any of the normal signs of a person who has MES. Mr. Sicarian then tells the doctor, “Well let’s run one last test then” before causing black tendrils to expound out of him and plunge into the doctor. “So you can see, there’s some concern that I think you are wrong” Mr. Sicarian says as the doctor is screaming in terror on the ground. A couple nearby nurses are freaking out, one of them is calling an ambulance and another is standing over the doctor repeatedly asking if he is okay. Mr. Sicarian turns to one of the nurses and says, “I need help. What are you going to do for me?” The nurse turns to Mr. Sicarian and says, “You don’t have MES. We can’t help you... You don’t need a doctor man, you need a priest!” Mr. Sicarian hands the man 10,000 credits, asks that it be given to the squirming doctor on the ground, and then leaves the vicinity. As he is leaving, his black visor goes up and a red cross can be seen in its reflection from a nearby neon sign.

Common Situations With Wilbur Higgins III[]

Higgins finds himself in a small rectangular concrete room that has jail bars on one of its walls. Regarding a couple of people in the room with him, Higgins walks up to the most bad-ass looking guy and asks him what he did to get detained. The man stands up and gets into Higgins’ face, letting out a hiss as a response. Higgins looks straight into the man’s eyes and says, “Go fuck yourself.” As the man leans back and goes to head-butt Higgs, Higgins quickly side-steps and trips the man, causing him to land on a guy behind Higgs, breaking that guys’ nose. These two men then begin to fight and Higgins, with the help of some prison guards, break up the fight. As a ‘reward’ for his help, Higgins gets transferred to his own individual cell. Soon after, the policeman who drove Higgins to the prison as well as another cop who has a bandage over his head walk into Higgins’ room. The man with the bandage puts on brass knuckles as the other police officer closes the door.

Higgins wakes up in a similar way to what he has in the past. A couple of his ribs are broken, one eye is swollen shut, and he is in an unknown vehicle being driven by an unrevealed person to an undisclosed location. The driver who looks to be of Indian decent says to Higgins that ‘they’ paid ‘them’ a great deal to get him out of jail. Higgins then falls back unconscious and he is inevitably taken to the Swan Song.

Feeling only slightly better, Higgins says to Laura McCrary that he and his crew saved her life, and that they should be rewarded for their work. Laura thanks them for saving her life and then transfers 20,000 credits over to the crew before departing from the Swan Song. Higgins then contacts Fang and asks him what his plan is. Fang tells Higgins that he will split the million dollar bounty so long as they can hand Mr. Sicarian over to him peacefully. Fang then sends schematics to the Swan Song of a sedative that they can use on Mr. Sicarian. The conversation ends and Higgins turns to Mr. Sicarian and asks him if his MES meeting went okay. Mr. Sicarian tells Higgins that the doctors told him that everything would be just fine. As Higgins goes into his room to lay down, Mr. Sicarian sits on his bed playing with black tendrils that are dancing in his hand.
